First generation alumina ceramic lining components have reported clinical wear rates of 1-5 microns per year. In-vitro hip simulator tests have generated similar wear rates for every 1 million cycles. Recent wear testing performed on the latest material has shown linear wear rates of less than one micron per year. This wear rate is up to 40 times less than the hardest metal available. Additionally, the hardness of alumina ceramic may make it more resistant to the adverse affects of the third body particles on the articulating surfaces.

Replacement of complete mill body is a very costly and time taking affire. Replacement of complete mill body means loss of production and valuable money.
